Common Vent Hood Problems We Fix
Your kitchen vent hood works hard every day to remove smoke, grease, heat, and cooking odors. Over time, electrical parts, filters, fans, and control systems can wear out or become clogged. Our trained technicians quickly identify the source of the problem and provide reliable repairs that restore strong ventilation, quieter operation, and better kitchen air quality. We service wall-mounted, under-cabinet, island, and built-in vent hood systems for all major household brands.
Vent Hood Won’t Turn On
Power failures often result from damaged wiring, faulty switches, blown fuses, or failed control boards. Our technicians inspect electrical systems and restore safe operation.
Weak Airflow Issues
Poor suction is commonly caused by clogged filters, blocked ductwork, or weakened blower motors. We clean and repair systems for maximum airflow performance.
Loud Fan Noises
Grinding, rattling, or buzzing sounds indicate worn motor bearings, loose components, or damaged fan blades. We eliminate noise and restore smooth operation.
Lights Not Working
Faulty bulbs, damaged sockets, or electrical problems can stop vent hood lights from functioning. We repair lighting systems for proper kitchen visibility.
Buttons Not Responding
Touchpads and control panels may fail due to moisture, grease buildup, or worn electronic components. We restore full control functionality quickly.
Vent Hood Shuts Off
Unexpected shutdowns are often caused by overheating motors, faulty capacitors, or internal electrical issues. We diagnose and repair the root cause safely.
Excessive Vibrations
Loose mounting brackets, unbalanced fans, or damaged motor supports can create strong vibrations during use. We stabilize and secure the entire system.
Grease Filter Problems
Dirty or damaged filters reduce ventilation performance and increase grease buildup. We clean, replace, and restore proper filtration efficiency.
Exterior Vent Blockage
Outdoor exhaust vents may become blocked by debris, grease, or damaged ducting. We clear restrictions and improve ventilation airflow performance.

Real Reviews From Happy Homeowners

Ice maker repair quoted at $465 — for a $130 part and about 30 minutes of labor. Egregious markup aside, MrFix runs a terrible operation. The technician barely spoke English, was extremely forgetful, and disorganized.
He arrived on time, checked the temperature, then quoted ~$430 to fix it the next day. I agreed, assuming a thorough diagnosis and repair would follow. Instead, the invoice had no line items, just a vague charge.
When he returned, he didn’t even remember why he was there. After repeating the basic inspection, he claimed the entire ice maker needed replacement. I had to leave for work, and he pressured my wife into paying another $497 — despite the fact I'd already paid the day before. I was able to intercept and demand a refund, which they processed (sketchily) through a Square transaction.
As a handy person, I know the actual issue: $130 part, 30 minutes of work. I’ll do it myself next time. Avoid this company.

FAQs
Vent Hood Repair FAQs
How do I know if my vent hood motor is bad?
A failing motor may produce loud noises, weak airflow, overheating, burning smells, or complete fan failure. Professional testing can confirm the exact issue.
Why is my vent hood not removing smoke properly?
Poor ventilation is usually caused by clogged grease filters, blocked ducts, damaged blower motors, or insufficient airflow within the exhaust system.
Can a noisy vent hood be repaired?
Yes. Most noisy vent hoods can be repaired by replacing worn fan blades, motor bearings, loose mounts, or damaged blower components.
How often should vent hood filters be cleaned?
Grease filters should typically be cleaned every one to three months depending on cooking frequency to maintain proper airflow and efficiency.
Is it better to repair or replace a vent hood?
If the unit is relatively modern and repair costs are reasonable, repairing the vent hood is often more affordable than full replacement.
